This is the most beautiful B&B I've ever been to. I visited just before Katrina, but from recent reviews it sounds like nothing has changed. We stayed in the Bayou St. John--the room was gorgeous and comfortable. The sleigh bed topped with a feather bed was ultra luxurious... and the library was a nice touch. Our room had a bottle of sherry which had attracted some ants... but the staff quickly replaced the bottle and took care of the ants. The pool in the back was dreamy--it was humid and foggy and the backyard, complete with banana trees, looked like something from a dream. Also, the breakfast was the best we had while in New Orleans (beignets aside ;D ) Note--we also drove past it... but they were kind in directing us to the estate. If you drive they give you an opener that gives you access to gated parking.

We stayed at the House on Bayou Road in January and were so impressed with the place. We had never been to New Orleans before but I liked the reviews that I had read online and in travel guides. I wanted to stay at a place that was close enough to the French Quarter without actually being in the French Quarter - I didn't want to deal with the noise and hustle and bustle but be close enough that we could be there in a few short minutes. This place was perfect! It was a short cab ride away and only cost a few bucks. It was a great place to retreat to after a long day of playing tourist. And Frank, the caretaker, was awesome! I was glad to see from the previous poster that he is still running this place. He was so friendly and helped us with any questions we had on the area. And the breakfasts he prepared were amazing! If we need anything he was so easy to get a hold of and he left out snacks and drinks for guests during the day. We would definitely stay here again if Frank is still in charge the next time we're in town!

What a gem to find in the middle of the city! The surrounding neighborhood is a little skkkkketchy, but don't be scccrrrd! The place is gated and I felt completely safe within the confines of the bordering white picket fence. We drove right past it 3 times before we realized where it was...just look for a big green plantation-style home with lots of vegetation and big palm trees. Frank, the interim caretaker, greeted us out front and gave us the clicker we would need to get in and out of the gated back entrance. The plantation is in foreclosure right now, but you wouldn't know it unless you ask. They're keeping the place in immaculate shape. We stayed in the Bayou Self (get it?) single room cottage in the back of the property; there was only one other cottage beside it. The other guests on property were staying in the main house, which was absolutely gorgeous. Oddly enough, we found out when we got there that my childhood best friend got engaged in the exact same cottage a year ago to date of our stay. FREAKY! When we came home from Bourbon Street at night (average $10 cab ride, incl. tip), two kittens greeted us and slept on our porch. How cute were they! A hen, rooster and their chicks also roam the property, so don't be alarmed if you come across them. The bed was oh-so-comfortable and BF had to literally push me out of it in the morning. The self-controlled A/C and fans kept the cottage at a cool 68 degrees, even with the humid sun beating down on it all afternoon. The bathroom was ginormous - it had a huge jet tub, 2-sink marble vanity and an overhead rain shower (shower wasn't enclosed, which was kind of neat). It was obvious it had been remodeled in the last few years, probably after Katrina took its toll on the property. We didn't eat breakfast, but there was coffee, tea, snacks and fruit available all day for the taking. We also had complimentary bottled water and sherry in the room, and access to an ice machine. There was also a pool out back. For a cool $150, we had a very comfortable stay - and because it's a bed and breakfast, there was no tax. And no parking fees. At that rate, I would definitely come again for a longer stay.

The place was gorgeous! I spent 3 days and nights there for a friends wedding. I highly recommend if you have many people staying together, that you rent out the whole place as it was perfect!! Very hospitable. Frank the caretaker there was phenominal!!! This place is a must if you would like some peace and quiet. The French Quarter is only a $6 cab ride away!!!

A beautifully restored home, with tremendous history and an amazing hostess. We're not usually into B&B's, but this place rocks!! Great breakfasts, amazing care by the staff and on-site creole cooking classes. Come on! that can't be beat.
